if there is need for maps.....we play now for +four years every sunday custom maps on our custom server. So we got really hundreds of maps, many of them also converted from SH to AA.
So if the time is there I have your maps
I've also got a loads of maps. I'm planning on gathering them (along with all other files) into one place as well but just for the sake of having them in one place (in a kind of wikipedia).
Will scapp also indicate if there is a bot version of it available? I think Prox and I added bots to over 150 custom maps so far..
Basically its user / community controlled, there will be categories per game which can be expanded anytime. Content that users upload needs to be provided with a installation and deinstallation script, means the tool will have a simple script language included. So e.g. you can have a category custom maps and a category custom maps with bots or a category just bots or mixed, admins need to decide what suits best.
Are you referring to GiffE's custom map auto downloader? Does that database still exist? It's been 4 or 5 years since the last release.
100% agreed on the mohfiles, there's a lot of crap on there...The system's not to blame, but the admins who know too little,
or who care too little or the combination. They don't want to be overly critical as well. There is absolutely no criteria to decline a file except for one: no porn.
In JoTo's system, users can add whatever they want. So there will be a need for admins to clean up the mess other people leave behind.
EDIT: The basic idea of my wiki project is that members and organizers add everything that has been released, if another person wants
to help out or wants to add newly released files, he sends them. Everything must pass certain criteria ('stolen', 'already submitted'
or 'rubbish' => declined) Based on his contributions or background (community people and modders will be favoured for obvious reasons),
he'll be made a member as well.
Upside is it chooses quality over quantity.
Downside is it will take a long time before most files are added and you will need people with long-term motivation.

Its in an early development stage so any suggestions are welcome and noticed, I do have a glimpsy clue about the other systems and recently checked the one or other and I know the webbased database solutions, but I am fairly fresh to it which is good I believe.
I allready do have a rough imagination of it, so the guideline I will follow is to ensure high quality of the content and maximum convienence for the users.
I think adding installation (and not to forget deinstallation) instructions so that the process can be automated is an essential thing (I have your Predator mod here in mind Elgan ) and webbased solutions do missing of those functionality at all thats why I believe a client based tool is better.
The system will be half decentralized, its per game, so that the admins are knowing what they are considering about, well content that gets uploaded will only being viewable after an admin (or two) have approved it and the tool can have some pre filtering for doubled content checking etc.
I think having a good user rating system (and your post made me just having the idea about a flagging system too) is a good idea and will ensure to get quickly overview whats bad and whats not and is also a good method of feedback for creators of mods/maps etc.
